For state insurance officials, the ‘p’ term is a dirty word

“Responding to a request for comment about Patronis’ tip sheet, Jimmy Farach, president of the Florida Association of Public Insurance Adjusters (FAPIA), pointed out that Patronis’ two predecessors didn’t hesitate to use the words. Farach provided videos of former CFOs Alex Sink and Jeff Atwater acknowledging the importance of public insurance adjusters.

“I understand the important place public insurance adjusters have in the whole scheme of the world of insurance. What would we do without public adjusters? Where would people go if they had no other place to turn?” said Sink, speaking at what a Florida Association of Public Insurance Adjusters spokeswoman said was a “political event” in 2010.

And Atwater, serving as keynote speaker at the association’s 2013 annual dinner, said: “The work of public adjusting is defined by the noble work of helping somebody navigate a path they have no way of knowing how to navigate themselves, and don’t believe they can.”

Why ‘unintended consequences’ spur today’s Citizens insurance change

Florida Association of Public Insurance Adjusters president Jimmy Farach said Wednesday the program still works against consumer interests.

“Citizens (is) taking away their policyholder’s rights to receive full compensation unless they agree to let the Insurance company’s pet contractors do the job,” Farach said in a statement. “This will take away any ability for checks and balances.  Instead of having a contractor that will perform a full and fair repair, Citizens will hire contractors that will do the cheapest repairs possible, without regard to the quality of the repair.  If the contractors hired by Citizens don’t make the repairs cheaply, Citizens won’t continue to hire them. This is really bad for Citizens policyholders.”

“Are you Prepared? The Things You Don’t Know But Need to Know to be Ready For Deposition and Trial”

This workshop will examine how a public adjuster, an independent adjuster and an insurance company representative can best prepare for and testify at deposition. It will include a review of the claim file and public adjuster file and discuss how to tackle issues arising from the contents and use of those files.  An experienced independent adjuster, public adjuster and insurance company rep will share their personal experience and participate in a brief mock deposition conducted by defense counsel and policyholder’s counsel. At the end of the workshop, a mock direct and cross of the witnesses will take place to demonstrate how the deposition testimony can later be used at trial.
